Yah, no shit, eh.

The worst part is, they often won't quote you a damn price until you've got the car at their doorstep and they're ready to actually do the work so they put you in a bind.

With the Canadian dollar the way it is, it's still cost-effective to import, though. You just feel like you're getting bent over at every step of the process.

This also applies to .. well, basically any car over 20K.

Just to be clear, Canadian Tire can not and will not do inspections on a lot of the higher end nameplates.

Good luck getting BMW to just give you a clearance letter, they require you to bring your vehicle to a bmw dealer to spend a ton of money doing unneccessary things to ensure it conforms to canadian standards when likely your car already meets transport canadian's requirements. Plus they'll charge you $500 to print a copy for you.10 seconds work and .03cents for the paper,I think thats fair.
Canadian Tire is the only authorized station to inspect your vehicle to ensure it meets canadian standards, and its a free inspection(included in the $195 riv fee)

The Bridge itself is open 24-hours. However, unless it's changed, the office for inspections is only open 9-5. Unless you get the proper clearance and fax in the papers prior to arriving at the bridge, you'll be stuck waiting until it opens.

Thanks for the comment, and I'll definitely give it a look over.

Thanks for the comment Tom,

Porsche and Mercedes are notoriously awful, but people still manage to make money off of their importation.

With the Canadian Dollar at Par, it's almost ridiculous to look at the price differential between Canadian and American cars. Porsche lowered prices 2 percent earlier this week, which is a start.

But still, if you're in a border city, you can still make it work financially.

Once again, we appreciate the comments and we're working to get the secondary information up as time permits. Our main concern right now was to just put as much information up as possible, starting with the fundamental stuff.

Good luck getting that recall letter! Porsche Canada will only release the letter at the request of a dealership. And the dealership will only do it as part of a $500 inspection of your Porsche. There will be additional charges for anything else that Porsche decides needs to be "fixed" (perhaps a new instrument cluster in km/hr) even if these "fixes" are not required by RIV. This is just a blatant cash grab and could potentially run you thousands of dollars. So beware!
